Blackberry and Ihug Mail

At this stage, a friend of mine has got a blackberry which is capable of email, and also a ihug (vodafone) email account. Now I was wondering what would be the best way to set these up so the emails can be accessed from several places. The places will include personal laptop, blackberry, and work computer, and also overseas, mainly in aus so either webmail, or on the blackberry on roaming.

I was thinking set up a Gmail account as IMAP, and have it fetch all the emails off the ihug account. Only problem is that on the computers (from what I know) can not nativly reply using the ihug email account, but will have to set up another smtp account on each device.

Any suggestions on another way to do this, don't really want to use pop and keep messages on server as can get messy, nut if that would be a better option please tell me it is!

Just use pop and advise email client to leave a copy of email on server for a few days. You should not need to bring gmail into the picture just another link in the chain thats not required.

Why can't you setup each computer to send from whatever@vodafone.co.nz? To get around security issues with connecting over different networks to different SMTP servers, just authenticate with smtp.gmail.com.

I agree with johnr that it does add another level of complexity, but to use multiple devices, IMAP is the best solution.

Ok I will have a play around with the devices on the weekend and see anyway. I guess it really depends on personal preference. To whether you can stand having a read mail unread heh.. or having to change the send address all the time (when using IMAP).
Also POP wouldn't be the best for webmail would it, well for past emails anyway right? Because there is no way to archive them?

No it wouldn't - IMAP is best as you can login from any of your devices and access your archive of emails.

With POP you can archive, but it will be to a specific device ie other devices won't be able to access the Archive.
