Hi,

I thought I'd have a go at enabling ipv6 on my Mikrotik connected to Vodafone UFB.

When I add DHCPv6 client on VLAN 10 and request 'address' it works fine. I get an ipv6 address assigned.

When I untick 'address' and tick 'prefix' I don't get anything.. status just stays on 'searching'.

I have a packet capture for the successful 'address' request (solicit, advertise, request, reply).

I also captured the unsuccessful 'prefix' request and there are 'solicit' packets going out, but no replies at all.

Wondering what I am doing wrong? I have no ipv6 firewall rules (yet) so I don't think that is the problem as the 'address' request works fine.

Do I have to request an ipv6 prefix from Vodafone?

Prefix delegation is definitely possible on vodafone fibrex/ufb because the Huawei provided router is able to successfully request a /56 prefix and assign a /64 to clients. I spent an evening a while back trying to make DHCPv6-PD work on my ubiquiti equipment. I was able to get addresses assigned to LAN clients but wasn't able to get these lan clients to reach outside.

My advice would be to plug in your Huawei router, and check that IPv6 works on that, then have a poke around and look at what configurations are set on the huawei.

An unlikely but possible explanation could be that VF are restricting prefix delegation to the huawei routers; perhaps try cloning the mac address.

Nope, plenty of people on here (and the Vodafone forums) using 3rd party routers with IPv6.

Left it overnight thinking something may have got confused with me initially requesting an 'address' rather than a 'prefix' but still no go this morning.

I've also had confirmation from BMarquis that my Chorus ONT and connection should be good to go - not affected by the current Chorus issue discussed here https://www.geekzone.co.nz/forums.asp?forumid=66&topicid=205740&page_no=22

Any Vodafone/ipv6/Mikrotik gurus able to help?

I've got it sorted.

I suspected that because I had initially configured the Mikrotik DHCPv6 client to request 'address' not 'prefix' that the ISP DHCP server now had a lease for my MAC address and was refusing to hand out a prefix.

I tested this by temporarily changing the MAC address on my WAN interface and I received a prefix instantly.

I'll leave it on the temporary MAC for a couple of weeks and flick it back to default.
