I have a Verizon branded Moto Z Droid which works fine on Vodafone NZ. Signed up for a roaming plan and upon arrival selected Vodafone AU. Voice and SMS is fine but can't roam on data.

Checked the APN and there was none for Vodafone AU so tried to manually add one based on this

Name

VF WEB

APN

live.vodafone.com

MCC

505

MNC

03

APN Type

default

But as soon as I choose Add the APN disappears.

Then reset the APN settings and now I have none when I choose APN and only get the message

access point name settings are not available for this user

Interestingly if I add the APN and leave the defaults for MCC at 530 and MNC at 01 I can save it but of course since it's not correct I can't get data.

If I then update the MCC and MNC to the right values and save, the APN disappears?I wonder if Verizon has customized their Android version to stop users from roaming unless they change some setting on the phone? Doesn't seem likely but one can never tell.

I just hope when I get home I can add back the VF NZ APN but then I won't be roaming.

Have you tried calling vodafone?

if there is an issue with roaming they will need it to be raised so they are aware can can rectify it..

I'm sure they have a pretty solid policy around all of this..

That is not the correct APN so it's not going to work. That APN is for MMS.

Vodafone NZs APN for data is simply vodafone

If it won't save it you could try using their website to send the APN details to your phone via SMS.

I'm pretty sure inside NZ Vodafone allow any APN to be used due to the many imported handsets that have screwed up settings and they got sick of trying to provide support for these. Obviously when you're roaming a valid APN is essential for data to work.

Well that was the APN for Vodafone Australia from their website for data. Even if it's not right I don't know why I can't save it.

Got it from here.

I have no problems with data in New Zealand so Vodafone New Zealand hasn't given me problems. It's just that I can't add the Vodafone Australia APN

This is not a VodafoneNZ issue but handset and as pointed out above you should not be using the live.vodafone.com APN as this APN is used for the WAP Gateway

The APN should just be ' vodafone '

You are roaming so don't use the VodafoneAU APN for internet access you only use the VodafoneNZ APN

Think what a mess data roaming would be if each county you went to you had to change the APN for internet access

ok I got Vodafone New Zealand to send me an auto configuration for the APN which I downloaded and I still can't get data.

All I see in the status bar is signal strength with an R above it.

APN is Vodafone MCC 530 MNC 01

For internet access edit the APN you already have setup " live.vodafone.com " to just " vodafone " and when you come home to New Zealand don't change it back live.vodafone.com

Further to this you are using a Verizon handset which is the worse possible handset you could pick as their network is a mix of CDMA & LTE and the handsets are far more complex when it comes to roaming,

I have seen this a number of times before

The APN just says Vodafone. I'm going to give you on this and just use hotel or work WiFi. I can still get SMS and calls so will do for the few days I'm here
