Hi guys,

I know this has been asked heaps before but I was just looking through the forum last night and suddenly realised that there is no way we are moving to VFX if the fax doesnt work (parents use it quite a bit for invoices and what not)

So what are the FoIP plans on VFX?

Also, any ideas about getting a fax-to-email service but then have my asterisk server print the faxes recieved? (Just considering this if VFX cant do fax)

VFX can definately do fax, international can be a bit of an issue at times, but to most countries it seems fine.

You will need either a Linksys SPA ATA, (not a PAP2) or a WAG Linksys router (with voice port)

Good to hear guys,

What PAP2T should I get so that it can be plugged into the original telephone line?

I am thinking of terminating my line myself and then plugging the PAP2T into the old POTS lines..

Ideas?

DON'T buy a PAP2T if you want to use fax.

As DavidE said above:

Secondly, for terminating the phone line, I have done this in 2 different houses now, and here is what you need to do:

1) Identify the phone jack which is nearest to the Telecom demarc (where your phone line enters the house).

2) Identify the wires which go to all the other phone jacks in the house and disconnect them.

3) Check that you have got it right by plugging a phone into each of the jacks around the house.

4) The only jack which should still be alive is the one where you disconnected the wires. If this is not the case, you have not identified the first jack correctly. Repeat steps (1), (2) and (3) again until you have only one live jack.

5) Install a second phone jack on the wall adjacent to the original one.

6) Connect the wires going to all other phone jacks onto the new jack and label it PHONES.

7) Label the original jack DSL.

8) Plug your router into the DSL jack, and your ATA into the PHONES jack. No filters are needed for Naked DSL.

If it is only one VFX and one POTS line then a SPA3102

Then you can create a dial plan to have your calls go where you want automagicly

To fully cater for all these lines, you will need 2 x SPA3102. That will give you a total of 4 lines, 2 VoIP and 2 POTS.

Have I understood correctly? Do you really want so many lines?

Just to clear all confusion this is how I want the set-up to be...

NakedDSL(Fusion) > Internet Terminated > Asterisk Server > 2 VFX Lines then plugged into my existing wiring in the house (we have two internal lines)

In that case, 2 SPA3012 units will suffice,

Plug each line into each SPA,
Register each PSTN line to Asterisk,
Register each FXS (ATA) port to Asterisk,
Then create a dial plan within Asterisk to send calls where you want them to go.

You can even (If you have Telecom Freedom) divert incoming calls on your VFX/2nd Phone Line to cellphone (Via line one) for free.
