Hey guys,

Just after some advice from people who have experience with this unit and Fusion.

I currently have a Netgear DG834G (non ADSL 2+ as far as I can tell) and I dont think that adding a PAP2T to this modem will cut the mustard for VFX. I love the idea of a all in one solution, DSL, Wireless, VOIP so the Linksys WAG54GP2 seems like it will be the best solution.

The only thing holding me back from buying one is that I keep reading really mixed reviews about them - mainly on forums - one post will say it is brilliant and the next will say it is horrible (dropped DSL connections being the main complaint).

If anyone can share their experiences with this modem that would be great.

For me, much more reliable than the Netgear (something-or-other) it replaced. My netgear would never reconnect from a dropout unless it was powered off/on.
I am power nazi too, so I don't like to run anymore hot power bricks than necessary haha!

I made the same switch at the start of the year, worked out great. I get much better sync speeds with the linksys and have not had any issues to date. Have had a pretty much solid connection since I got it.

Had one since early February. Run an XP and Vista laptop off it, both wired and wireless depending on where I am in the house, as well as a Uniden cordless phone. Have experienced no problems at all.

I've had mixed results with mine.
When it works, it works brilliantly, with no problems whatsoever.
When it doesn't work... - well I've had everything from loss of PPP connection (NOT DSL) to DHCP issues.

Be aware that the device can get very hot, especially if you have ADSL/line issues, and this heat is probably the source of many problems with this router.
Mine is currently behaving itself atm though.

I have the netgear834G and it works pretty well, we have around 9 computers running off it with several others that come and go, with a pap2t running from an asterisk box and it all runs pretty smoothly.

I brought a WAG54GP2v2 back in Feb and found it regularly dropped and reconnected ADSL (sometimes as frequently as every 30 minutes)..

Sent it back for a replacement to find the second one better, but still dropped and reconnected intermittently (often went for hours without a break)...

Even so, not so good for VFX having the line drop during a call, so ended up returning the second one for a credit.

Found they both got extremely hot... Expect overheating is part of the cause... Although I expected better quality given it has a Cisco logo on the front, and they aren't cheap devices.

Overall mine wasn't a good experiance, and the RMA process having to call Linksys in the states is horrible (0800).

I read in another thread that a new version is due out shortly. Could be worth waiting...

I settled for a seperate PAP2T, and a Dlink DSL-G604T. No issues with call quality...

I've played with one myself. interface is ok, however I found:
* Multiple wifi transfers caused the router to restart.
* Very hot to the touch
* Connection heavy apps would cause VFX to sound like chipmunks, even capping throughtput would not resolve it. I found that afterwards, even if the connection was completely idle it would still do it. Only solution would be to restart the router.
* Wifi transfer speeds were very slow (also applied to LAN). There was a notable improvement using ethernet for internet access on a FS/FS DSL2+ connection.

I opted for my old dlink (now a Thomson) which is working really well, and a PAP2. Doesn't suffer from any of the above issues.

Even though I have one at home and it works perfectly I would recommend the Linksys WRP400 + Dynalink RTA1335 combo over it. It will probably be easier to get also as the WAG54GP2 seems to go out of stock pretty quickly these days.

This is one of those discussion that is like the Holden / Ford debate, there are no winners or losers, basically you are going to get a number of opinions here, some people like them some don't. Some devices seem to work better on different line conditions than other the combinations of factors, distance from the exchange, home wiring, line attenuation , SNR can all contribute to the performance of the router and people are going to have a varying experiences with their different routers.

Frm our point of view the devices generally work well, they do get hot though, we have seen a few device failures but that is the same with any modem / router no different to any other router provider, these are usaully bulk produced low cost devices that will and do have some failure rates. they do work well as an intergrated Voice device though but are near end of life, a new model is out shortly hopefully (Details of which I am not at libity to say yet so please don't ask

), but it is a good looking device and a bit of a step up.

Other options work well though and there a number of user out there that have put a varity of different setups, so there are actually plenty of options.
