What number do I call Vodafone to get a UDAI for a domain ? Or can I do it via a portal somewhere ?

It depends on which brand of Vodafone you are using. Details at https://www.vodafone.co.nz/broadband/domains-and-hosting/

Follow the instructions for Vodafone Services. When Voda bought ihug, that is the registrar they continued to use.
