Playing PUBG, when playing on SEA servers, I have a considerably higher ping (220ms) compared to friends in the same city (CHCH) but are on different Internet Providers.

I have a trace route

Tracing route to 74.201.102.172 over a maximum of 30 hops

1 <1 ms <1 ms <1 ms 192.168.1.1
2 2 ms 2 ms 2 ms 27.252.7.254

15 * * * Request timed out.
16 224 ms 224 ms 224 ms 74.201.102.172

Have called Vodafone multiple times with promises of call backs etc etc but no word on the cause.

Anyone able to she light or have similar experiences?

@piccaboo Nothing wrong with 220ms Vodafone aren't calling you back as it's not a fault

Working as designed

Out of curiosity what latency are the other gamers getting and what are you expecting?

I find it hard to believe that your friends would get less that would make any form of difference to game performance. In Wellington:

2degrees: 217ms
Spark: 220ms
Voyager: 220ms

This is working as expected - no fault. You can't change the laws of physics in term of the speed of light, these servers are far away.

As stated many many times on here a lower ping by a few ms is not at all going to make you a better player or even be noticeable - it is a pure placebo.

My advise? Stop watching your ping (actually hide it) and just play the game. If you experience problems then try another server closer to NZ.

Also note any icmp traffic like doing a ping test does not get priority

Also use the pathping command and make sure you are gaining over Ethernet and not Wi-Fi

I get (from chch)

--- 74.201.102.172 ping statistics ---
17 packets transmitted, 17 packets received, 0% packet loss
round-trip min/avg/max = 223.574/223.810/224.557 ms

It's probably coming back from Boston via Japan/Guam

Use a (gaming) VPN?

That latency is pretty much on point with alternative routes.

there is an option of SE-MW3 but the bandwidth is so limited on that it's unlikely any large provider is going to push much in that direction.

While the latency is far lower, the throughput simply isn't there at scale...

Aren't there still AU based servers for PUBG...

There are still AU servers, but playing base isnt big enough so they dont open them. People i know are getting 130 ping from chch. So i think there is a problem? Im the only one with 220 to SEA

I think you got the wrong IP address for testing SEA servers.

Rather than contacting Vodafone it'd probably be easier to just change ISPs to the one your friend is using keeping in mind routing is dynamic and can change due to cable cuts and that commercial interconnection arrangements between ISPs change over time. I don't think any residential ISP will guarantee ping times to a particular destination.

Apparently PUBG servers are on AWS, at least according to https://pubgserverstatus.com/. Where do you see that IP address, just in-game or can you point me to a list somewhere? And can you get a traceroute from your friend getting 130ms?

@Linux

Here is a screenshot from a friend who is on the same server when im getting 220ms

So clearly its not against the laws of physics

You need to provide a trace route not a screen shot and as above it's not possible return

John

Edit: Make sure you both ping the same IP address

To find the IP address(es) associated with the PUBG process while you are in-game, you could use TCPView:
