Will Vodafone still issue mobile nos.  021 *** ***  if on account.    That is 021 followed by six only digits ??

Thanks for that,   I know it seems like a silly minor issue but having a digit less still has attractions !    As I understand it the six numbers were issued

 

starting with 3 to 9,   which I guess would have matched Telecom's first 025 number issue.

Telecom had 6 digit numbers because that was the length that they were using for landlines at the time they launched their d-amps mobile network ...

Landlines were (0x) xxx-xxx so they simply adopted 025-xxx-xxx for mobiles

That, and Telecom wouldn't in their most optimistic predictions in the eighties imagine having more than 1,000,000 connected mobile devices. It wasn't until the mid nineties that consumer mobile finally took off.
