Hi

I was wondering if there is a device limit on the ultra hub like the 32 limit on the HG659?

Starting to run into issues with the 32 device limit on the HG659 on fibre. Also, have the landline running through the HG659.

I am wondering if Vodafone would swap the router?  It's for a small business I work at.

Thanks in advance.

Hi, neither of these devices are really suitable for business accounts, I would recommend you move to a more suitable router (Edgerouter or Mikrotik) and if you need to retain VOIP services put the 659 on the lan side just for that.

Hi @darkasdes2

The Ultra Hub doesn't have the same limit. There are still some theoretical limits like 125 per radio band, and addresses per subnet, but in practice you'll be hitting performance problems before then. If you have an account manager they may send you one as a replacement. Although as @cyril7 suggests, if you're doing a heap of stuff you might want to look at an enterprise-grade router.

cheers,

chris

One of the reasons why a device like the HG659b (and lots of other home / SOHO routers out there) have a 16 device limitation on the WiFi is that connecting more clients than this will significantly impact wireless performance. There is no way way in the world any AP (even an enterprise one) should have anything close to 125 devices on it, it too will suffer from poor performance simply due to the way WiFi works.

Thanks team.

We are a small medical based practice with about 10-15 connected devices (Lan and wireless) at any given time.

I will contact the account manager and try a Ultra Hub first and then look at Cyril's suggestions if that does not work out.

You say you've got 10-15 devices, but want something that can do more than 32. What's the problem you're seeing? And are you on the latest B026 firmware?
10-15 isn't really that many.

I am getting messages on all the laptops at different times there is an IP conflict and last week the boss's laptop would not connect at all.The router was restarted and that sorted that issue out last week for the boss. No IP conflict messages while I was at the clinic this morning after the router reboot.

Will check the firmware version when I am in the clinic tomorrow.

Check the DHCP settings to see if you make the range bigger

The symptoms you're seeing aren't what I'd expect to see when you hit the 32 host limit on the HG659.

Have you changed any of the DHCP or IP settings on the router? Have you (or could somebody else have) set up something on the network with a static IP - configured statically on the PC I mean, not on the HG659? Could there be another router (HG659 or something else) in your network?

Agree with Chris from Vodafone this is not an issue with the Wi-Fi hitting a user limit

I havent changed any of the DHCP settings and no devices are on static IPs.

No one else accesses the network setup.

No other routers or access points connected to the network.

Problems started about a month ago.
