I connected my Vodafone STB to my projector via HDMI and to my Nakamichi Soundspace 8 via Digital Audio out on the box.  I get a good picture from my projector but no sound from my system.

Glen the Ninja on his "how to setup" video says this is the way to connect to your "fancy audio set up". When I ring Voda and speak to another Ninja he tells me, after a chat to someone else, that digital audio is not available on the STB in spite of being on the "Setup Guide" and  on the video.

Has anyone else had this problem?

Can't you output sound from your projector to the audio system?

Is there an option on the STB to select sound output format/type?

The set top box should still be outputting stereo sound over HDMI and Optical Out, just not 5.1

A bit tricky as the projector is on the ceiling across the room. Have not found access to manage the STB yet. My main concern is that Voda misleading customers by talking abt a feature that appears not to exist!

I have reconnected everything and now have sound from the projector which is OK in the short term. I will experiment with getting sound from the projector to the sound system during the week. I have spoken to several voda Ninjas and none have offered any useful advice re the digital optic connection from the STB direct to the sound system. hey don't even confirm it is an available feature. Doesn't seem to be much about it in the STB settings menu.

Turns out I did have sound at from my projector when I turned the volume up, but 1W mono was not a satisfactory solution.

A better answer turned out to be not that difficult to find after a search or two on the Interweb. Got a Pudney model P18012 Digital Audio converter box from Noel Leeming. Takes TOSlink from the Voda STB and converts it to RCA into my stereo system . Takes 5v via USB from the STB for power. Connected it up and it worked straight away so I'm back in business.

It also handles SPDIF in via Coax. Supplied with USB cable and 2 RCA - 2 RCA cable. Supply your own TOSlink or Coax.
