Have a friend on vdsl. Vodafone are doing a 24 hour line test for him as his internet connection keeps dropping. Vodafone said Chorus info currently shows Line is UP but Unstable. If my friend's modem lost power for some reason would it show up on Chorus as Line Down or can Chorus only see connection from exchange to ETP?

ETP is just a cable join.

Spark Max Fibre using Mikrotik CCR1009-8G-1S-1S+, CRS125-24G-1S, Unifi UAP, U6-Pro, UAP-AC-M-Pro, Apple TV 4K (2022), Apple TV 4K (2017), iPad Air 1st gen, iPad Air 4th gen, iPhone 13, SkyNZ3151 (the white box). If it doesn't move then it's data cabled.

The 24hour test will show what's happening with the dsl connection itself.

This would help to know if there are errors on the line etc, that would indicate likelihood of it being a line related fault.

Vodafone are simply following through with a typical Frequent disconnections fault.

If the modem is turned off, this will show as no connectivity (thus no data on the test)

If the modem is off for 5 mins it's hardly going to matter, but if there is a 24 hour test and you go and switch your modem off for the day it's going to be a complete waste of time.

The agent should have made it clear not to turn off the modem or mess with it in that timeperiod, if customers do it makes for muddy data.

Line up and Unstable simply means the modem is synced to the DSLAM at the time of the test, and it's flagged one of the many causes for 'Unstable'

I'm personally quite against trusting that Line stability figure, as it's quite ambiguous (since it's a combination of a few different metrics)
