I've noticed that occasionally callers to my VFX number are connected directly to my voice mail. When I have been at home and someone has tried to ring me and the phone did not ring, my only heads-up to the issue has been the more-or-less instant email notification of an incoming call. I can usually resolve the issue by making an outgoing call or by resetting the VoIP adapter, but I should not have to do this.

My experience is that has been related to ADSL modem outages/resets/restarts and when the VoIP adapter has not been restarted. I'm beginning to also think that is the SPA2102 which does like to reconnect with WxC if a modem reset has occurred.

Logged with the help desk a couple of months ago, but noticed that issue still exists as of today.

Any ideas, anyone?

Cheers
Jylie

What model ADSL router do you have? Is the SPA2102 in the DMZ zone?

The SPA2102 is connected to a 4-port Ethernet switch which is connected to a DSL-502T modem. The SPA2102 has a static IP address in the modem and it is in the DMZ zone.

Seriously looking at buying a Linksys AG310 all-in-one unit (ADSL modem/router/VoIP) although it would require installing extra wiring as set-up is spread over two buildings. At the moment I have the ADSL modem and Ethernet switch and one computer in the house, and the SPA2102 with another Ethernet switch and two computers connected in the garage and therefore just one Ethernet cable between the house and garage. If I get the new adapter then I will have to string up a phone cable to the garage. Cheers.

- Have you upgraded the firmware of the 502 to latest available (if it's x Xtra, then that may not be so simple).
- Have you tried dynamically assigning the static IP? I.E. SPA gets it's IP dynamically, but the 502 knows which IP to give it based on MAC address, then still set this IP to DMZ zone.

Also a couple of these may help if you get the AG310

If gigabits not important to you then just split the pairs in the cable and run the phone on one of the 2 unused ones to the garage.

Callers go straight to voice mail if the line is busy when they call. This can be turned off under VFX Messaging - Voice Management.

I had a similar issue when my modem was in bridge mode, then my WRTP54G would not renew it's IP address and the modem would not know it needs to give the WRTP an IP address (or something like that).  Solution for me was to turn off bridge mode.  The problem you have might be similar, perhaps complicated by having a switch in between.

The switch I assume is a low cost $15 rather than a proper router?  At work we use cheap switches and every now and again all network access through a particular switch would stop for a while, presumably when there was a collision.  Perhaps you are also sometimes getting a collision and in the process your SPA is loosing it's IP address (or the 502 gets confused).  I would change one thing at a time, perhaps start with running without the switch to isolate the problem.

This would not be an XNet fault, so they are under no obligation to help via the help desk.
