Anyone know where I can buy a high gain, yagi type GSM antenna or GSM indoor amplifier?

There is no such thing as a cheap "amplifier" for GSM.

If you're after an aerial your first stop should be www.pacificaerials.co.nz - they have pretty much everything!

When I say cheap I mean sub $10k (or somwhere in that realm)

You can't just amplify a digital signal like you can an analogue signal.

There is someone that sells the antennas often on trademe, and dealextreme have an indoor amp here - http://www.dealextreme.com/details.dx/sku.15391 that should do the trick assuming it works.

China has no 3g so there is stuff all 3g stuff available from them. And since vodafone and nzcomms are both on 900's and telecom still havent confirmed they are going to pull gsm and go umts only I think its a pretty safe bet to get if you want GSM coverage inside.

Just be aware that using a non certified transmitting device in a band could easily find you breaking the law in New Zealand. I'm not saying this device will cause interference but it has the potential to do so and if it did you would probably have Vodafone (or NZ Comms or Telecom) knocking on your door and complaining to the MED.

So they knock on your door, advise you you need to stop using it, you stop using it. end of the matter from all the past dealings I know of dealing with the MED over interference issues.

That may have been the case in and old days but it isn't necessarily the case now. The MED take a very hard line on interference, even being in possession of radio equipment capable of causing interference of transmitting in a band you're not entitled to do so can now result in on the spot fines.

I use Hi-tec in ChCh, they have a 10element GSM band yagi, you can spec exactly what 800 or 900MHz sector you want it cut for.
