Hi.
Using Apple Mail on macbook pro. Im away from my fixed line broadband connection at the moment. I can receive mail fine, however I cannot SEND.  I'm connected to a public wireless network at a hotel and right now am connected to an xtra broadband connection.My home broadband is through IHUG.  my smtp settings are what it should be.  I have been on hold with vodafone for almost 50mins.......   
online help sucks
What I need to check is   SSL and Ports.

Do you have authentication set, and does Vodafone accept authentication when connecting from a network other than their own?

If you are connected to a public wireless network through xtra this is not a vodafone issue.

You will need to use the xtra out going server.

Correct so visit the xtra site and get there smtp server and you will be up and away

As advised by MF above you could try smtp authentication

use same as incoming settings

ok,  im officially fed up and give up for now. 
(I have just relocated to Auckland and wont have a fixed broadband for another month or so).
Seems weird, because I have used all sorts of hot spots in the past.....hmmmm

Oh, wait a minute.... You said Xtra?

Xtra, like many other ISPs, block access to port 25 on external networks, to prevent spam, bots, trojans, etc working through the network.

yep...
Right now thru xtra.
Otherwise my hotel has rievernet???   via the kingsgate/copthorne/millenium  system.
I might go try the kordia hotspot down parnell road tomorrow if I have the time.
