In October last year I signed up to an 12-month unlimited Vodafone broadband plan that included free Vodafone TV as part of the plan. At the time, I didn't require the TV so I said didn't need them to send me the streaming box.

Today I rang them to ask about picking up the streaming box. I was told that because I declined the TV at sign up, it was no longer availability as an free option for my plan. To add insult to injury, they cheerily told me that when October renewal rolls around, I will be able to pick up it up for free then.

How I see it. I signed up to a contract that included free TV as part of the term contract and the price I am paying. That I didn't pick up the box on day one doesn't invalidate the conditions of the offer I accepted?

Any Vodafone reps out there can clarify?

So you declined something when you signed up, but now you want it? I don't think you have a leg to stand on here

I signed up to a term contract that included free TV. There was nothing in the offer that said the TV component had to be taken up at the time of signing.

Anyway, shortsighted of Vodafone. They could have simply sent me the box and come October, given I was now a Vodafone TV customer, I would have simply renewed the contract. Instead, I guess I'll have to buy a Freeview streaming box for $130, and, come October, move to Spark fibre out of principle.

dafman, I imagine that it is almost certain that you will end up with Vodafone TV being added back into your package: maybe by signing up for another 12 months from today; maybe by other Vodafone staff stepping in.

To the letter of the contract, you don't have a right to one. I've declined the free antivirus software and had it removed from my invoices. I don't expect to get that back without doing something like committing to Vodafone for a longer period.

Edit: we crossed over because it took a while to get my message in.

Definitely don't buy another box. That would be the last resort.

Thanks, good suggestion. I'll suggest recommit for 12 months before picking up a Freeview box.

Hi dafman,

Why don't you visit the shop and talk to a store sale check how it goes. I made this suggestion under the impression Vodafone's call center has such a bad reputation.

Hi @dafman - can I get someone to contact you about this? Please PM me your contact details. Thanks!

So, in conclusion, PippaC put a VF rep in contact with me, the up-shot being that I would need to move to a new plan for $5 per month more to get Vodafone TV. They said my current plan was discounted by $5 when I didn't take the offered free TV when I first signed (but then that wouldn't have made it free ... me thinks?). Anyway, the amounts are too small to worry investing more time in this, and thanks to PippaC for pointing me to someone to discuss.

Just goes to show, nothing is free, same as those trust power "gifts" when you sign for 24months
