Hi,

My phone won't connect to the Vodafone mobile network at home (Papamoa, Tauranga) this morning.  Is anyone else having similar issues?  Tried flight mode on and off, phone on and off, with no success.

Getting lots done working from home today in Napier, not! Trying to decide if I should go for a walk, knowing my luck it’ll come back up just after I leave!

Pretty good argument here to have your fixed-line internet with one provider and your mobile with another...

Sounds like there were two cuts, one near Napier, one near Matamata so the redundancy had already kicked in when the second went out.

yep just after 9 mine went out on both internet and mobile and no idea why both went out at same time. With both down now way to find why and then midday news didnt mention it either. As Full Flavor said good point of having internet and cellphone from different providers so if Vodafone go out like this then good chance Spark still running

Cell towers connect to the rest of the network via the same fibres that carry internet traffic. You lose the fibre, you lose both.

I’m in Rotorua at the moment and sure enough No Service on my personal Vodafone mobile this morning.

Interestingly my work Spark mobile had no service all morning either... has since been restored this afternoon as well though. Great excuse to take a morning off work though.

Work had some sites quite badly affected. VF said one repair near Napier Is now fixed and the other later this arvo. Absolute worst luck for two unrelated cuts to occur at the same time.
They’re looking at a 3rd path for extra redundancy so hopefully things stay stable for a while. But I imagine it’ll be quite slow with everything going through the one funnel right now.

Absolutely blown away - I’ve just received a phone call from Carolyn at Vodafone who wanted to check my mobile was working correctly now and apologise for this morning’s outage. My mum (separate account) has also received a very similar phone call from someone else at Vodafone.

Cannot fault that for excellent customer service. Was fully expecting the outage to be resolved and then hear nothing of it. Ping @JasonParis - well done to the team on a proactive step here.

Yeah, a Double cut,

Standard redundancy would be to go the "other way" on the cable but if you are between two cuts there is no way out...
