I'm moving house in a few weeks and I want to get my Xnet connection back up and running there. At our last place, we had Sky and a monitored alarm so we had to get the full wiring option when we had the broadband installed (originally throgh Telecom). As Xnet apparently don't send out technicians for anything, how do I go about gettting someone in to do the required wiring? And is the cost still $150 if the wiring is not being done as a new connection?

Are you opting for a naked ADSL plan or regular ADSL plan?

My understanding (having been told this a couple of days ago) is that the cost of a Chorus tech to come and install a central filter on a LLU circuit is $249 - $100 more than if you are a non LLU customers.

Why it costs more kinda defies logic and if you are going to have to pay $249 for it I'm sure you can find an electrician or data tech who will do it for a lot less.

Regular ADSL I think i.e. WxC tolls, Xnet broadband, and line rental through Telecom.

You should just have to contact Telecom and they'll come and install it for you. It isn't really anything to do with WxC since it's a wiring issue and your line is still with Telecom.

Telecom won't have anything to do with it as my boradband service isn't with them. Currently waiting to talk to Xnet again.

Finally had a solid answer from someone. I can organise a technician through Xnet for $149 but, as our new phone number won't be active until the day we move in, we can't book said technician until that time, and then we have a 2-5 business day turnaround.

Have you ever tried it in Africa? People are disconnecting their phone lines and going 3G, actually very cheap there. A pre-pay starter pack is under NZ$0.20 and includes a CD from some dude. Africa is the fastest growing mobile market, Egypt being #1 and South Africa #2.

Anyway, unfortunately that is how it works. Can you not book the install before you move in?

You need a working phoneline in order to submit a new broadband connection & wiring order, Telecom provisioning like to do things once at a time so Xnet will have to wait until the phone is working and the service order for the new phone install is closed (which is usually on the same day as the phone install), that means that the next day Xnet can submit the BB&Wiring order through and then usually get a tech within 3-4 working days if there's no complications.

So get a new line installed now. When it is working, port you current number over (if you want to), and then order the ADSL connection (or the other way round, have not thought about it). It means that for say 2 weeks you have 2 phone lines.
