Hey guys

Just brought a fax machine to use on VFX and sends fine. Trying to setup receive automatically but it just seems to keep ringing. Does VFX send a different signal for faxes to determine whether a fax or not?

If not I presume only option is to manually accept faxes as they come in or get another line? :(

There is no "faxability" on a VFX line. If you have your fax machine set up for faxability/distinctive ring it will not work. A voice/fax switch should work OK if you only have a single line.

Just looking at 2talk services which is quite cool. I take it that it runs seperate to XNet voice services and signing up for phone number with them will not alter what I already have?

That's right, it will run along side (separately) to VFX just fine. Usually your VFX hardware will have a 2nd unlocked line available that you can configure if needed, but just using the 028 fax number for fax to email maybe all you need. For sending faxes, just send out on you normal VFX line. NB: people will pay mobile rates to fax to the 028 number, so that may or may not be an issue.

I had to change the caller id option on my ata to have my fax actually answer it when trying.

I also had to change the ring to trapeziod to get the phone ringing reliably. You have no abilty to change those options on VFX so will have to call them.

I found that ETSI FSK with polarity reversal (UK) is the best caller id option for working with all my gear, but showing before the ring. ETSI DTMF would only work on some of my phones, bellcore worked on them all but only after the ring which is the same as you get with telecom, which is annoying when you have custom rings on your phone for people.
