Does ne1 know if the latest fw update on the vodem bump the max d/l to 7.2 from 3.6

Yes the latest firmware does increase downlink speed but there are only a handful sites today running 7.2 down.

The main benefit of the upgrade isn't necessarily download speed (although that's a good thing in itself). We upgrade the upload speed AND lower the latency quite dramatically, making the network better for business customers who want to do more than just download stuff and check email.

NB: I am in the CBD on a average-to-highly used cell I would class these as "real world" but I have definitely received better at home in the burbs

Hmmm, that doesn't look like any improvement in latency; 110ms is pretty much the norm for WCDMA. Anyone else got better results? Paul, how about your ping times?
