I have noticed recently that my broadband usage meter for Telstraclear Cable has had inconsistencies between different views.

For example, the total for this billing month (so far) is shown as 5.07GB, however if I drill down to a per-day level and add up the totals for each day (up until 12:00am today), the total is 6.4GB.  Now I'm certainly not complaining if TelstraClear "misplaces" the 1.4gb difference, however it does seem a bit odd since the total is monthly surely calculated by adding up all the individual days' totals.

Does anyone have any ideas as to what might be causing this, as I have typically found the usagemeter to be very reliable.

I think the TCL usage meter is very poor and inaccurate. When I used the Paradise meter (as part of the TCL service) I could see usage by site (IP address) and confirm that I was using what they said I was. The current meter provides no detail, you have to take their for it and it's really hard to provide evidence that they are wrong. In my experience it seems their readings are way over what I think I am using based on known behaviour but it's pretty hard to prove. Not a problem except of course, you have to pay for the data you use!

I totally agree here, the usage meter that telstraclear is  using is crap and whats worse is that when they implimented it, it was wrong and started to tell people that they had used all there cap in 1 day.
Bring back the paradise usage meter i say.

It's also untimely.

You go over your limit and you hear about it a day and a half later.

Today it won't even load for me...
You know i wish telstraclear had an all in one 'your account' system like vodafone does. I used to be able to log in, check usage, add email accounts, check the bills and change plan even.
On telstraclear i have to login just for the usage meter, and my password + account number have never worked for viewing bills or anything. Crap system imo.

I couldn't log in today and apparently everyone's meter is stuck at 250MB so they've turned it off, until probably Friday the dude said.

However the system status message when you call says "no probls"... >:(

I use this app.. runs in the taskbar and tells you how much you have used. If you are on track for the month etc. Great and free.

Yes, I use TUC also.  It's very good for keeping track and getting an approximate amount of bandwidth used for the month.

Anybody from TCL have an official comment on the status of the usage meter? How can it be down for so long and how are customers supposed to keep track of data usage?

Due to unplanned maintenance, customers may be experiencing in-accurate displays of usage from the usage meter.
The cause of this has been fixed, however it may take some time for the usage meter to accurately display these.
Estimated ETR for this service to be normalised is 26/11/08.
Usage is still been recorded correctly at this time, however the graphs and stats sheets may be showing incorrect information.

I've had no problems using TUC mentioned by Nety for monitoring my Telstraclear useage and it has been accurate as far as I know.

I also have it installed on my PC at work so I can monitor Telstraclear useage at home while I'm at work. It doesn't complain about being logged on via multiple PCs at the same time.

TUC simply does a HTTP login to the usage meter and scrapes the data so it will show the exact same figures as logging in maually.

FYI:  I would be hesitant to put my login details into any closed source application from a random third party like TUC.  Do you really know what the code is doing with your login details.

Is TUC safe? I refer to sbiddle who answered this very question over 2 years ago on Geekzone - I trust his judgement as Uber Geek.

Sorry I don't know how to hyperlink this.

The TUC forum and internet also shows no concerns from users.

The logon credentials for the usage meter are hardly sensitive - just your account # and a password. It's not the same logon/password you use for any other TCL services having it hacked I would think is hardly going to be an issue.  Anyway those are the credentials I use.

I received an email this morning to say Id already used two additional blocks. No 80% warning, no 100% warning, straight to two blocks. I too use TUC and have found it to be excellent so I know what Ive used and when.

However Ive just received another email to say Ive now used seven additional blocks. Thats 10Gb since this morning and yet when I look at the usage meter it tells me Ive done 2Gb today.
Its just rubbish.
