Hi

Here is my dilemma, I am looking for suggestions on a course of action.

Firstly, I have been a a loyal customer of Vodafone and Sony Ericsson since I ditched my MicroTac at high school.
I have been through more than 10 ericsson/sony ericsson handsets - usually top end models, such are my interests.

So I shelled out with glee for a c905, keen on a high MP camera with xenon flash for my own purposes, and keen to start to learn about developing J2ME GPS applications with the phone. I have had it for about 2 weeks.

Yes of course it is parallel imported. I bought it online. Not to save a few measly bucks, the phone cost NZ$950, but because it was not available onshore.

Now it has developed a fault, the ear piece has failed.

There is evidence this is a manufacturing fault:

The retail website does not want to know. Have I just paid the early adopter tax? OUCH!!

Any thoughts?

If this is a New Zealand-based store then they are bound by the Consumer Guarantee Act and have to provide remedy, support and warranty services.

Of course this is nothing to do with Vodafone in any way.

Unfortunately it was not a NZ based online retailer, at the time I got the phone I could not find the c905 at any local parallel imported outlet online or offline.

No blame to Vodafone.

No blame to SE either really, If I purchased through their official channels I would have a simple course of action.

It just hurts to be burned so bad when I am their ideal consumer, longstanding devotee, desperate to get hold of a new release, keen to develop on their platform (really wanted to try out project capuchin stuff)

Such a fundamental flaw, the ear piece!! (speakerphone continues to work, handsfree as well)

Yep. I bought a Nokia phone a couple of years ago when I was in Hong Kong and it failed, I had to send it back to the place I bought it from to get it fixed. Thats the risk you take buying anything without local support.

Edit: Just a thought you might be able to get someone like Mobilephonerepair to have a look at it. You will have to pay of course, but and ear peice wouldnt be a major to replace, assuming its the same as something like a K750 or other SE phone.
