So I've re-signed for HFC Max, during the conversation with the Vodafone retention staff, I was told that my current TC-4400VDF is very old and I should expect Ultra Hub Modem to come in a week.

In anticipating this change, I emphasised that I don't want to change my current network which uses Mikrotik hEX (RB750Gr3) router.

Looking at this setup link: https://www.vodafone.co.nz/help/broadband-and-tv/modem-support/

I am unsure what I'll be expecting to receive whether I will receive both the Ultra Hub Modem and TC-7210D to work together, over HFC?

I had a look at TC-7210D (PDF doc) and to see how it can be a drop-in replacement for TC-4400VDF because I don't want to replace my existing network setup. So ideally, not using Ultra Hub Modem (akin to HG659 that I never use) and not using the built-in router function of TC-7210D either and pure configuring TC-7210D as a bridge/cable modem.

Is it possible? To have TC-7210D as a bridge/cable modem?

I could be wrong, but I think the agent had it the wrong way around… off the top of my head the TC-7210D was introduced with DOCSIS3.0, and I’m 99% sure the TC-4400VDF came later and is still the current model being deployed.

And if I’m *not* wrong, there is absolutely no reason why your current set up needs to change (aside from a hardware fault or you are adding VoIP, I assume neither is the case here)…

The TC4400 is a DOCSIS 3.1 modem. The TC7210D is not. If you have currently got a TC7210D then they will be sending you a TC4400 and an UltraHub. If you have a TC4400 then I can conceive of no reason why you would be sent a TC7210D.

I honestly don't know why the retention staff suggested that he'll arrange to send out Ultra Hub Modem (which totally no use for me since I'm using Mikrotik) and also... how do I solve the intermittent dead-signal on the TC-4400VDF then?? grrr... :-(

Anyway so from the look things, I'm not likely going to get any hope that the HFC connectivity will improve? It was working sweet for many years until this year things (last couple of months thinking back) that the HFC just feel more flaky.
