Hello Everyone,

I have a number 021 700 311 which has been for many months showing up in my billing logs in Kogan Mobile but I have not been calling (virtual provider on Vodafone's network - apologies if I have the wrong forum for this post.)

This number is not one I have been calling, nor does it show up on my iPhone's recent calls list.

When I do call it, it has a short recorded message and then ends the call after around 4 seconds; but some of the calls to this number in my carriers billing system show a duration of up to 206 seconds.

I found 1 service online which showed this as a 'redirection' or 'call forwarding' number, but a normal google search pretty much brings up nothing apart from "Nuclear Waste Program: Hearings Before the Committee on Energy and Natural..." and some dodgy dating website links and ends after 3 pages depending on the search pattern (021700311 or 6421700311 or "021 700 311" etc).

Also a bit strange for such a short google history for a number which I assume according to it's length has been around since BellSouth? Or has the new number portability rules changed all this? :-

I called a friend who works at the carrier and he put it down as a billing error; and said I should contact the actual service provider Kogan (an excellent response :-) and one I followed, a few months ago and put a much smaller summary of this into their chat window and my browser closed itself down on me. (dark evil music plays.)

I then became distracted by a myriad of other things, and am now circling back around to track this down, as I believe it's related to a recent hacking attempt.

76 calls in approx a month;

I've asked some of the finest minds in the NZ security/hacking community and other more, ahem official sources but no one has been able to cast a light onto what this is. Can you?

Sorry, no idea about the number or why they would appear on your invoice. Here are some other thoughts.

exportgoldman: ... Also a bit strange for such a short google history for a number which I assume according to it's length has been around since BellSouth? ...

I have a 9 digit Vodafone number for 4 years now. Google search results is a mere 3 pages long. All results are from overseas sites. Non end with a .nz tld.

If you can, switch off your phone & place your SIM card into another handset. Set this alternative device up as a new device. Do not restore your backup, do not transfer applications & history. Can you go all the way & create an alternative Apple ID? Do the calls continue? Maybe you have a rogue app installed on your phone?

Is there a financial cost to these calls? If yes, I would hope that Kogan are much more willing to investigate this.

PS Still liking the iPhone 3G & Kaseya?

Is there some form of call forwarding setup to that number for when phone is busy or phone not reachable/off?

@exportgoldman OCCF / Voicemail number (not the one the end user dials to collect Voicemail) for Kogan mobile and they are showing incoming calls that divert off to the OCCF 021700311 and callers can leave a VM

The OCCF for Vodafone subscribers is 021700100 Vodafone removes / suppress theese incoming call records that are handed off to Voicemail from the invoice

I take it these calls are not charged? You let 76 incoming calls hand off to Voicemail

OCCF - Operator Control Call Forwarding

I am amazed your friend that works at the carrier could not answer this and no one is hacking your mobile phone!

As above - are you sure these aren't unanswered calls going to voicemail?

They very well could be answered calls going to voicemail; makes total sense. I’ll have a play around tomorrow and confirm.

Still a bit confused why there’s no hits on Google for that number or why it’s not diverting to the normal VM number.

Geekzone such a incredible resource.

Hi Exportgoldman,

the records are essentially missed calls going to voicemail.

Kind regards ^Jovi from VFNZ

These CDRs should be suppressed to stop customer confusion when on home network not when end users are roaming
