Is this the standard Vodafone response for copper retirement? Thought there was a 6 month notice and fibre had to be available in area first ?

I'm quite happy on my current 70/12Mbit VDSL service for $63 per month from Vodafone and no intention of changing to wireless, considering fibre is available in Dec 2021.

Sounds like a customer grab away from Chorus.

Do not move off VDSL if you don't have access to Fibre yet!

Pick another ISP

Sounds like really good value. Nothing quite like paying $10 more for a lesser service. /s

Call them and tell them no. If they refuse get a new ISP.

Get one or two Vodafone TVs and stick them on the unlimited 4G connection and leave them on 24/7 :)

These kinds of marketing practices have not gone unnoticed by ComCom.  There has been an open letter written, feedback sought, and new industry guidelines are to be published in the next week or so.

Do you have an analogue landline? If so you could be being proactively moved because of the NEAX shutdowns rather than there being any ulterior motive.

Considering fibre is due shortly and currently you have a reasonable VDSL connection, if I was to receive this letter I would commence an immediate cancellation process and move to another provider who was not so arrogant to claim 4g was the future while I have fibre options.

They have sent these letters to people in Carterton as well.  I  rang up and cancelled the transfer without any problems.

This is just another example of why I wouldn't recommend Vodafone to anybody.

HOWEVER - I have to admit that I don't know anyother  ISP where the CEO is on Geekzone.

I really think vodafone are doing themselves an own goal with the wording of these letters to people not being clear that its vodafone who are going to stop selling the copper service to the customer.

Other RSP's don't need to have their CEO on Geekzone to get things done. The staff you speak to action your request and it just gets done.

While I think Jason does a commendable job, my view is he shouldn't need to. The staff that answer the phones should just take care of your request/fault/whatever, end of discussion, not need to get the CEO involved :)

The letter says you will be paying less, yet it is $10 more expensive. That is factually incorrect and likely to mislead customers. People will read that, think they will be paying less (because that letter clearly says so), and end up being charged more - for a product that is arguably inferior - higher latency and greater variation in throughput and latency. Sure, peak throughput under ideal conditions may be higher, but that isn't usually a good measure of user experience.

While saying copper lines are designed for a voice service 100 years ago is technically true, the unstated inference is that you can't get a decent internet connection over it. 70/12 that the OP has over VDSL beats some fibre connections.

These types of letters are going out nationwide to people who have a copper connection with a voice line. Vodafone are trying to move everybody off the NEAX's well before the remainder are shut down next year.

Does Vodafone also limit their fixed wireless to 30Mbps like they do RBI?

Yes but VF doesn't have to LIE about the reasons for the letter, nor BS about the wonderfully better service over 4G.

It must be a good cost saver for VF to move customers off the NEAXs early.  They are being very proactive.
