Hi,

I have a R216 portable hotspot I purchased some years ago from VF.

I would like to try using it with a SIM from 2degrees.

I have inserted a 2D sim, but in the R216 app it shows it is connected to 2D but that there is no internet connection.

Does this mean the device is locked?

And if so, is it possible to unlock it?

Thanks.

Those are not typically locked. You need to update the apn.

Create a new profile - Vodafone uses vodafone while 2degrees should be just internet as the APN

Don’t have it handy but try profiles > new profile > name it 2degrees and set apn to internet save and that should be it.

@jiriteach and that is something done on the R216, or do I have to put the 2D sim in a phone for the apn change and then put it in the R216?

They are not SIM locked but as above you manually need to create a new APN ' internet ' when the 2degrees SIM card is in the unit

This is where you were trying to lead me yesterday right.

Before I got bogged down with dinner duty and evening webinars.

Move to New Zealand's best fibre broadband service (affiliate link). Free setup code: R587125ERQ6VE. Note that to use Quic Broadband you must be comfortable with configuring your own router.

Quick Google search looks like no L700 band28 support so very limited 4G support

Insert sim into R216 - start it - change APN in R216.

@jiriteach  I only know of 2 ways of accessing the settings of the R216.

One is via the Mobile Wifi app on my phone which has very limited functionality and I can see no mention of APN there.

The second is via logging in to the R216 website portal, which I long ago forgot the password for :(

Thats the one I'm going to need isn't it?
