Currently using a Huawei B315 with external antenna on Vodafone rural broadband.

VF are ending rural broadband and want us to switch to Farmside.

There is normal cell reception at this address.

Farmside is more expensive for less data.

What's the difference?

Can I just get a VF wireless broadband SIM and put it in the current router?

Farmside is owned by Vodafone

Same 4G network- I am guessing you have capacity limitations on your tower

What is your location? Have you investigated perhaps local WISP's (Wireless internet service providers) in your area? What are your requirements exactly?

I would look in to a WISP if there is one in you area, take a look at wispanz that will point you in the direction of some wisps in your area.

Location is Manawahe North Island, high elevation.

Use case is general internet browsing.

I am thinking normal 4g may be adequate.

There are a few other RBI resellers around that would be happy to have you, and can probably just send you out a new SIM to use with existing modem.

Sure go out and get a normal VF 4G SIM on an "extra large" 100GB Plan for $100 per month once you blow through it you will have a 1.2mbps internet connection for the rest of the month

Fixed 4g wireless with high data caps can no longer be offered when a 4G tower reaches a certain capacity level, they need to ensure there is enough bandwidth off that tower for everyone - Radio waves are no unlimited

VF is $55/month for 300gb. The current limit is around 100gb which is very rarely exceeded.

After reading this thread I still don't understand the benefits that the rural 4G plans (ie Farmside) give over a normal 4G plan, despite the significant increase in cost.

It's good to know that other wireless offerings are available, but what's here has worked fine to date.

No, Vodafone were never allowed to sell non RBI plans in rural areas. It was against their agreements for the RBI contract, ensuring a margin for RBI resellers.

Ok this makes some sense as to why I have to go with the more expensive for less data rural plan.

What's to stop me ordering a non rural SIM/Plan to another address and using it here?
