Hi there, what a neat forum to find.
Was wondering if anyone had any similar experiences with a thompson speedtouch and the VFX line. I have searched and did not find this same issue here unless I missed it already.

I generally use a dynalinl RTA1320 but was having awful constant diconnects so had a telecom freebie in a box and decided to try it out. Got it going in the end and was a stable as, but with calls, they can be outgoing with no issues but I cannot get incoming. Have tested alot and what I found was that there wa s a dead air sound on most calls. Di manage to get 2 calls to ring out of 10 but there's always a silence even before you hear a tome with the 2 that worked. I have plugged the dynalink back in again but it is dodgy and had wondered if there was a block in there somewhere - read it somewhere also. I don't understand that sort of thing very well though.

Any ideas would be appreciated very much as I have spent my whole day messing with it and would love a clue

thanks

Seems  that I have to do the port fowarding thing. I really feel unconfident to do this with my thompson, pap2t, and belkin wireless. Have looked at portfoward.com as per Xnets email instructions but after setting up the pap2t I'm lost and worried that I'll mess up and it wont go at all anymore. So I was wondering if I buy a new moden maybe a netgear one will I always have to do this blocked ports/UDP thing to make the calls come in as the Xnet man said that all modems have these port blocked issues?

Any advice please about buying or whatever is welcomed greatly.

Have used this setup with good results. With the PAP2T connected to the Router lan port and the bottom panel of the RTA1320
cut out for extra cooling(they get  warm)       http://www.ben.geek.nz/adsl-routing-solution-in-detail/

Yes, you are correct the RTA does get warm Cool

I have now broken the ice and done the port fowards on the Belkin with the Thompson Modem running - it allows some calls through now but not all.

Can someone please tell me if there are any other ports that I should try fowarding besides these ones....

TCP/UDP Ports 8060 – 8065 Signalling
TCP/UDP Ports 5060 – 5065 Signalling
UDP Ports 35384 – 37384 Media

Thank you.
