Had an outage at 2:40 ... and now we have dial tone again, but can't dial out.www.xnet.co.nz was also not accessible.

Everything on XNet went down for a few minutes.

Appears to me nationwide, affecting myself in Hamilton and a friend in Christchurch also on Xnet.

Symptoms experienced by us are :

Loss of DNS resolution, loss of access to Xnet websites, but still some degree of external connectivity.
It also seems to have been affecting Xnet's internal phones, as calls to the 0800 tech support line were getting an error message (I forget but something along the lines of "this call is unable to processed, please try again later", it then seemd to come back (got into the queue), then it died again, lost connection and redialing just gave beeps.
Similar symptoms happened to me about 1:30 the other morning too (I forget which day, earlier this week).

Almost like large parts of their core network just simple vanished off the face of the earth.

Yeah, complete Xnet FAIL again this afternoon for a while there - I went and did something else for an hour and it was working when I got home.

Frustrating to say the least - this after reassurances from their helpdesk recently that things were well and truly set to improve... No explanation on their website either (but at least theyre aware their usage meter is nearly a week behind..)

No signature to see here, move along...

It was down for 10 minutes if not less.

I couldnt connect Thursday midday'ish for a few hours - then started having funny issues with my router, then my Mac came up with some wierd message about Netbios, then it all seemed to go horribly wrong.

As I'd been meaning to replace the loaner SMC router I had, i took this as a sign and brought a new Linksys WAG160N router (VERY smart looking) came home and......couldnt get that to connect either. Pretty damn sure I had all the right settings in.(will post screenshots later)

Anyways, resorted to the old SMC and its working again.

However now I'm having issues with my MacbookPro laptop - wifi aint working, it wont even show up as an option, I'm hard wired into the network but cant see the other Macbook & HTPC machines, dammit. There are also now 2 machines with different Mac addresses but the same name connected under different IP's on the network - and i know that only one of my machines has that name. So for now I am filtering by Mac address and not allowing the foreign MAC address.

I'm also trying to setup a Trixbox box, and this all happened around the time WXC changed my line over from VFX to Asterisk. A coincidence I'm sure, but very wierd timing.

So I'm having trouble getting the Trixbox to work, even after following Tony's instructions on here - it looks like the box has registered but cant dial in/out - I'll post a new thread with screenshots tomorrow afternoon.

I'll also post screenshots under a new thread to try & get the Linksys box to work tomorrow afternoon as well.

For now, i best be off to bed as i've got a 5.5hr bike ride early in the AM.

Assuming you simply moved your account from a regular VFX account to an Asterisk one rather than creating a new login for your Asterisk configuration then your existing ATA won't work because it's no longer configured for the network. Once your account has moved to Asterisk only this will work.
