Looking at moving to Dairy Flat area. The cellular coverage is rather spotty in the location I am looking at. Is there a preferred cellphone for weak signal areas? been looking at tech specs for various phones wrt signal sensitivity but that is no guarantee of performance in the field.

 

An alternative would be a signal booster, any recommendations on that?

Just make sure your phone supports all the correct LTE frequencies & supports VoLTE for your provider of choice. 

 

Are you taking about a location where you will have WiFi coverage? WiFi calling is a good option if that is the situation.

Can you get decent broadband? If so any phone that supports voice over WiFi would probably work for you. Samsung phones purchased in NZ are usually a good bet for modern features that work in NZ. Spark often has the best cell coverage.

Only ADSL, Fibre if I privately fund it (area not covered on govt. funded rollout, scared to even ask the price!). We are with Vodafone at the moment, will check out Spark.

No phone is really going to help you, WiFi calling is the best bet

This website suggests you have a few options for broadband. I picked one at random, StrataNet, which looks not too bad given it's unlimited.

Have you checked Spark Fixed wireless? They do offer unlimited plans in certain areas there.
