There is still no 3G coverage in Rangiora as mentioned by Johnr. He told me i will get 3g by the end of Jan. Sigh... I have waited for it for over 2 years, but still nothing has happened over here. Telecom just took over 1 year to deploy a nationwide 3g. Not to mention nationwide evdo. It is everywhere and no signal dropoff. I was still wondering about when I will ever get voda 3g in rangiora. Come on vodafone! Show us you can do something.

I can tell you its just round the corner and dates can change sometimes by a week or so there is also a new 2G site 900mhz about to go live as well somewhere in canterbury. Just hold in there Harry.
Alot of testiing has to be done before a site can be made live to customers.

Thanks John. I'm just getting impatient. Does 900mhz cover Rangiora as well? Or just rural farm area? And Which one covers Rangiora? 2100 or 900 MHz? If I buy a iPhone, will it work in rangiora after the 3g site goes live? Because iPhone doesn't support 900mhz

A new 2G/3G2100 site has gone live in McLeans Island - hopefully that will fix the lack of coverage on the old west coast road, and also the animals at Orana Park will be able to video call.

The 3G sites in Rangiora(coming on line Feb/Mar) will be 2100, as is 3G at Kaiapoi (live this month too).

Nice work, thats good news for out that way for Vodafone clients and roamers, especially the bogans and their fast cars and families at Orana park, especially the 3g element. What i dont get is why 900mhz 3G wasn't choosen especially with the number trees and forest out there, thats bound to effect propagation of the 2100mhz signal which is average over distance.

The 3G build from Vodafone sounds expansive, any idea of when Mid Canterbury will be done, obviously i understand the NDA etc but some sort of idea would be good. I see Timaru has been partially done wiht 900,mhz.

2100mhz would be pointless in these ares.

Just saw this, might be worth digging out my Vodafone phone and checking to see whether it's in Whakatane yet.

Edit: The online coverage checker shows "Good" 3G coverage at my parents' place and "Marginal" at my own. I'll take it with a large chunk of salt as it also lists 2G as "Best" at my place where in practice it doesn't work at all.

Edit 2: Tried two phones, no 3G coverage (tested in the middle of town where 2G coverage is excellent).

To get 3g everywhere(once roll out is complete) you will need a phone that does 3G on 900 and 2100.Most only do 3G on 2100

I get the impression that my phone doesn't even have 2100.

Hi Harry

Sorry Rangiora is delayed due to something beyond vodafone NZ control site is in and built but can't go live. The delay could be up to 3 weeks.
