IIRC this should work when the next rounds of the eSIM project goes live (wearables etc). In the interim, you can remove the eSIM from your old phone manually, then after a few minutes you can re-use the QR code on your new phone.

That's a really handy workaround and I didn't think I'd get a reply here on GZ so quickly!

Unfortunately, the shop staff told me, no sorry, you'll need to come into the shop for a new esim.

Not sure about iPhones but on Android, specifically Samsung, my daughter recently upgraded from S20U to Z Fold3, she had eSIM on the S20U, deleted the eSIM profile on it, waited a few min and scanned the original eSIM QR code on the Z Fold3 and boom, all working again on, so it does work.

Instructions in the activation email you would have originally received when getting your eSIM cover this, which - to echo the previous commenters - is to simply remove the eSIM then scan the code again.
