I want to make a backup of my contacts and text messages, is there a way to do this? I have the Nokia 7310.

Can i do this via the pot port? I have a feeling there is no way to backup the sms but is there 3rd party software to do it?

Flamer.

Does Nokia PC Suite not do it?

Failing that, there is other software to do it, I remember using some about 4 years back to do it, can't remember the name of it unfortunately, Google is your friend.

Most phones (I know that the nokia’s do) have the ability to copy contacts from SIM to phone, and visa versa. First copy all contacts to the phone, get hold of a second SIM card, or prepaid card. Put this second card in your phone, copy the contacts back from phone to SIM. This SIM card now acts as your backup, store it in a safe place. You can buy devices which backup your SIM too, but what’s the use, just use a second SIM, much cheaper than buying some sort of backup device.

Under message settings somewhere, you can specify message inbox location, either phone or SIM. You may be able to do the same thing with the messages, copy them to phone, then to second backup SIM card.

I am using nokia PC Suite, and this does the job too, it allows you to backup your entire phone to a file on your PC, all messages and contacts. PC Suite is free.

Interesting, I had a Nokia on telecom with pc suite, it would back everything up except the SMS, I read somewhere that the telecom messages could not be copied off the phone. Must not be the case with vodafone!
