I have a Honor Magic 5 Pro phone which was purchased overseas. When I make a phone call, it falls down to 3g from either 4g or 5g. I tried to contact ONE NZ today and asked if VoLTE could be provisioned on my phone but it did not get very far. Has anyone in this forum successfully enabled voLTE on their phones which are purchased overseas?

TBH I think you are  paddling up hill,

Its HIGHLY unlikely that ONE even have the requisite firmware for a phone they don't even sell,

By default all plans have VoLTE enabled.

Try your sim in a supported handset. If it works, the issue is the phone. If not, then VoLTE might be broken in the core for your specific IMSI, and that's a ticket to service assurance.

I believe the manufacturer, Huawei, has to update the phone's software to incorporate the network VoLTE profile to allow it to work correctly. I could be wrong but from what I've read the network operators share this information widely but onus is still on the manufacturers.

For interest, how old is your physical SIM card. Was it originally issued by Vodafone?

SIM won't matter.

The only thing that matters here is both the plan and the handset.

@Goosey Not related in anyway at all

End user could have a Bell South SIM card and VoLTE would still work

A SIM swap is the easy way out of not fixing it in the HSS/HLR(which 777 and 888 won't have access to).

In other words, service assurance don't get notified and it doesn't get sent to the people who actually manage it.

A SIM swap can also break VoLTE (found out this bug still exists in 2025).

SIM swaps are wasteful and never should be done unless explicitly said so.

This is the answer.

I had this issue on Spark when my wife upgraded her phone.

No VoLTE on her phone.

My (A33) two year older version of her Samsung phone (A35) worked fine on Skinny with VoLTE enabled. Swapped my SIM into her phone - VoLTE worked.

Her SIM in my phone - no VoLTE.

Problem moved with the SIM.

Found out that Spark didnt have her account VoLTE enabled.

Only managed to get it sorted by a helpful Spark Geekzone supprt person after being told nonsense from people in the Spark shop and on telephone support.

TRY YOUR SIM in another handset that can normally get VoLTE.

I also want to solve this problem, last time I was over the phone it didn't solve anything, so I would like to ask where I can find Spark Geekzone supprt person?

Its a good way to get off the call and make someone go to a store, improving your call stats.
