Dosh are are forming a partnership with One NZ. The first bullet point is interesting regarding them creating a One NZ wallet:

We’re getting in touch to provide you 30 days' notice about some updates to the dosh Terms and Conditions and our Privacy Policy.

These changes support a new collaboration between dosh and One New Zealand Group Limited (One NZ). To make this collaboration work, we’ve updated our policies to explain how certain information may be shared with One NZ and how they may use it to administer our new rewards programme.

What’s changing

The updates include:

  • Your One NZ Wallet will be connected to the dosh app. If you don’t have a One NZ Wallet, one will be opened for you.
  • How we share limited Personal Information with One NZ.
  • How One NZ may communicate with you about your One Wallet and rewards.
  • How One NZ may use anonymised and aggregated data to improve the programme.
  • Your rights and choices, including how to opt out of marketing from One NZ.
  • See the One NZ Privacy Policy for more information.

These changes don’t affect how dosh manages your account, how we store your data, or how you use the dosh app day‑to‑day.

I use both and don’t see any benefit of this. It looks like the dollars in the wallet can only be used to buy a phone on a plan that has a minimum term but I have no intention of doing that at any time in the future despite having $340 in the wallet.

I don't use the One NZ Wallet, and don't understand why I would want it (and for Dosh to make me one?).

Yeah I don’t understand what the OneNZ wallet is for and why Dosh OS mis even getting involved with it at all. They have not communicated what the advantages are at all or what this is all about. Not sure why One NZ also hasn’t been in contact to say that this is happening.

One wallet seems to me to have been a complete failure.

I've experienced some of the frustrations, had a $562 'iPhone boost' reward to use towards a new iPhone, went in store to find out about a trade in and using the reward dollars, and they had no iPhones in stock. The reward dollars expired before they had phones in stock, and there was zero interest in extending the expiry date of the reward to align with when they would actually have stock. Noting they gave these rewards to coincide with the release of the iPhone 17, but they had zero stock of the phones.

I've had multiple 'Simon boosts', for a plan which I regularly spend $300 per month on, (multiple devices, and more than just Mobile), my simon boost was $34. These also expire a short time after being earned. How much do you have to spend monthly to earn a meaningful reward, $34 wont go far towards a $2500 phone!

I can earn a percentage of my bill each month as a 'bill bonus', I recall it's around $10. Thats $120 per year. So 21 years to earn enough to redeem for a $2500 phone.

If this is OneNZ's attempt at keeping people loyal, its certainly failed, a miserable marketing idea for a loyalty programme.

I recall many years ago almost getting a $2500 at zero cost, provided I signed to a 24 month contract - this is still common overseas.

I have looked into it more and it just send to be a marketing gimmick to get people to sign up to a new term plan by reducing the price of a new phone. The dollars don’t appear to be able to be used for anything else. So not sure how Dosh fits into that. But it has zero value to me. I see I had over $500 of One NZ dollars that just expired and another $330 that expire in a few days.

They could go the route other reward providers do and offer users an option on how they are rewarded e.g. Woolworths Everyday Rewards offering Qantas points as the rewards currency. Instead of cashback, they could offer One NZ dollars.

I don't really use Dosh much any more so on receiving this update and currently having nothing to do with One NZ, I moved all my funds out and closed the account.

The close process was a bit weird.

1. First it said there was an error and I had to log in again (biometrics)

2. Then it said another device was logged in and logged me out.

3. Logging back in didn't offer biometrics and wanted to send me an SMS but now my phone number has no Dosh account.

No email or anything (yet).

If anyone else decides to do this and yes this may be obvious, but move the money first.

I'll be doing the same given the latest update from them. Very disappointed.

Our rewards just got a serious upgrade - and there’s $100 Phone Dollars waiting for you!

We’ve teamed up with One NZ to launch an all-new rewards programme that makes it easier than ever to get the phone you want, when you want, by earning Phone Dollars with dosh. 🎉

What are Phone Dollars?

Every Phone Dollar equals one real NZ dollar off the price of a new interest-free phone with One NZ. By earning Phone Dollars, you can get your next phone, faster. Phone Dollars are stored in your One Wallet with One NZ.

How do I earn Phone Dollars with dosh?

  • There are $100 Phone Dollars waiting for you to start off your One Wallet balance as a dosh customer
  • Spend with your current dosh card and earn 1% back in Phone Dollars on your eligible everyday spend (uncapped)
  • $1,700 Phone Dollars bonus on settlement of a home loan with dosh. T&C’s apply*

Here’s what’s changing:

  • New rewards programme: Earn Phone Dollars when you spend with your dosh card or settle a home loan with dosh
  • Updated T&Cs: We’ve refreshed the fine print to align with our partnership with One NZ
  • App update: There’s a new version of the dosh app so you can view your Phone Dollars balance, make sure you have the latest app version downloaded
  • Updated dosh card: Your dosh card will now be called the One NZ dosh Visa debit card, and your current dosh card will earn you Phone Dollars, plus you’ll see a refreshed card design in-app (you will receive your new designed card when your current one expires)
  • Monthly Doshback: The $10 capped per month cashback offer will be withdrawn on 31st January 2026
  • Streak home loan offer: This will be withdrawn on the 28th January 2026 and replaced with the new home loan offer

If you’re a dosh card user, you’ll automatically be switched over to our new rewards programme. From 1st February 2026 you’ll start earning Phone Dollars instead of Doshback Rewards and your last Doshback payment will be paid to you by 3rd February 2026.

So Dosh got rid of the 1% cash back that was about the only thing that made them worth using (given all their other products are relatively similar or worse than mainstream banks), and instead moved to giving people 1% in credit for a product most people don't want and would never use?

Very strange strategy, that's for sure.

Looks like I will use the Sharesies card instead. Although it has an annual fee which eats into the benefit a lot, at least you get moneyback which automatically goes into an investment. It is useful for paying things like rates and insurance, as it is like a free discount, and  both which don't yet charge a % fee  (yet). A pity though it has no apple pay.

I'm also exploring other options and the Sharesies card looks like a good contender. Either a $25 annual fee with no plan or $12 fee with a $3/month plan. No apple pay is a big downside but hopefully they will launch that

I am wondering how they will bill the annual fee. Whether you can signup to the $3 plan, and then cancel it after the annual fee has been paid. Or whether they will charge the fee every month so you have to keep the $3 plan active.. But maybe it will incentivize me to invest more into sharesies with the plan in place.

I just got the email from Dosh now. IMO it would be far better if the One NZ credit was able to be used as mobile credit that goes towards calling and data. That would then be more similar to Sharesies. That would also incentive those that aren't with One NZ to switch to them. IMO the current system means many people will probably never use the credit if you can only use it towards a phone where you must sign up to a monthly plans. I had $600 in One nz phone dollar credit in total that will end up being wasted because I don't need or want a new phone.

Unsure how the charge the fee but it's probably the latter to ensure active plans. Do update us if you sign up.
