I’m currently using a physical SIM with One NZ (pay monthly plan) and noticed I can convert it to an eSIM directly in my iPhone settings. The process looks straightforward, and I’m aware of the main drawback (not being able to easily swap the SIM to a backup phone if this one breaks).

Are there any other "gotchas" or recent issues with One NZ's eSIM specifically? Thank you

Yeah, nah, you've pretty much hit the only nail there is, right on the head.
The gain is that you can then add a secondary physical SIM if you travel.

When the phone fails you have no way to get the sim again. It's not like you can just login to your telco account and add it to a new phone like you can with the esim roaming apps.

IME its harder to get an esim replaced.

Well that is a really good thing then. Hope the others catch up with it. Is there any problems with a 2 factor stalemate where they want you to get a SMS, but you can't because the sim is on a dead device with that usage?
