Hm, they seem to be having a bit of a meltdown.

Can't call 777. (I was going to ask for the new 100MB data plan).

On their support site 09:21am:
We are currently experiencing issues with calling through to 777 and 0800 800 021.

Our engineers are aware of this problem and are working to resolve this at the highest priority.
We will update this post as soon as we have any information.

Thanks for your patience.

...and 11:09am:

We are currently experiencing issues with the following:

• Calling Customer Service via 777 or 0800 800 021
• Topping up your Prepay Mobile
• Checking your account balance via TXT and 777
• Accessing “Manage Your Account” for Prepay customers.
• Managing your Prepay Add Ons (Best Mate and TXT2000)
• Purchasing Prepay content via Vlive
• Activating your new Prepay connection
• IOU

These issues are a high priority and we hope to have them up and running as soon as possible.

We will update this post as soon as we have any information.

Thanks for your patience

... and now I see at about 2:50pm, their site has also gone down.

Hi Paul,

Looks like the almost fixed it.

I see it's claimed to be fixed here:

UPDATE 16:30 - This issue has now been RESOLVED and you should be able to get through to Customer Service.

Thanks for your patience

but if I call 777 and select 0 then 1 to talk to a CSR, I get 2 secs of hold music, 1 sec of ringing, then "Thank you for calling Vodafone. Goodbye!"

Same thing the last 6 times I've tried.

Almost fixed. Almost :)

Every engineer has had one of those days they look back at in horror, this day was it for the poor Vodafone engineers. :)

I nearly sprayed coffee everywhere when I read the first message saying some things were broken then progressively throughout the day more and more stuff was going offline, instead of the broken stuff going back online.

Pretty amazing that you couldn't reach the second biggest Telco for most of the day.
