Finally, there is 3G coverage in Huntly!  (I work at the power station sometimes)

Just out of interest, can anyone tell me if this is 900 or 2100 MHz?

What kind of phone are you using? I would say it would be 3G 900 in Huntly. 3G 2100 tends to be larger towns and cities.

Yeah! I won't go into a 3G black hole as I drive through there tomorrow :) Will be able to tell you then if its 900 or 2100 (if no one has already confirmed by then).

Nokia 6121 with generic firmware so I can lock it to UMTS.  And the coverage around the station seems much better than before.  I've been intrigued how long this has taken, as Genesis are a Vodafone customer.

Thanks johnr. Will Vodafone have full 3G coverage, or will there still be some GSM only sites?

Thought so as the coverage inside the buildings at the power station is pretty good.

Is there any 900MHz UMTS between Taupiri and cambridge? No GSM for a lot of that journey.

I thought that vodafone had total coverage from auckland to wellington but from yesterdays trip down that is clearly not the case.

I take it you were on SH1B?  I've received calls on that road but sorry no idea if they were GSM or 900 MHz UMTS.

I'd really like to know how much coverage the 900 MHz UMTS network has at present, but the maps on the Vodafone site only show projected coverage by the end of 2009.

Gordonton has 900 3G
I have virtually continuous 3G coverage for all of SH1B, but that is with external carphone antenna.

So it appears that the Vodafone 900 MHz 3G network is becoming a reality!  I found 3G at Otorohonga a couple of weeks ago, which I assume would be 900 MHz.  It's great having 3G when on the road - it's been a long time coming though, especially when you consider that Telecom have installed a complete national 3G network in about 6 months!

Must be some really old technology now; so what's this new fancy stuff that Telecom are about to launch - hehe
