Thumbs up to Vodafone for replacing the Get 70 plan with an Easy 20 plan.

I received a letter today saying this was happening from 28 May onwards. It costs $1 per month less has 80 instead of 70 weekend/night time free minutes and includes 20 anytime minutes (none with Get 70) as part of the 80. Extra Peak minutes drop from $1.39 to $0.99 per minute with all calls now rounded to the second after the first minute.

This is a plus for me as the old Get 70 plan was the cheapest contract plan for those who made few daytime calls and now is even better. Presume those on the old Get 200 plan are also in for savings.

I wonder if the arrival of 2degrees mobile in August has anything to do with this?

Edit: More information is available here.

So for $19 per month you get 80 off peak min, 20 peak min, 20 texts, and 99cent call thereafter? Cannot find easy 20 info on web site... can you get best mates?

You can't use add-ons with Easy20 (so no bestmate or txt2000)

You get 80 nights and weekends minutes per month for $19 which you can either use

a) all 80 nights and weekends

b) 20 anytime minutes, 60 nights and weekends

works out rather well for get70 users

This is actually very good value.  Compared with prepay using multiple sims/phones, lets say that I want 20 daytime minutes ($10), 60 off peak minutes ($30) and 20 texts ($4), that would cost me $44.  So it's a discount of 25/44 = 57%!  I've seen much worse plans by Vodafone.  I'd say it's highly likely it's because of Two Degrees.

Edit: of course compared to the golden days of cellphones (late 90's) where you could get Talk 200 for $30 (a discount of 70% using the above method) it's not all that great.

It's more likely becuase of the XT network launch on the 29th May than becuase of 2 degrees.... come on, these launch 1 day before XT network goes live.....

Yeah but these are two separate markets.  XT is (initially) for people who want to use data, the Easy 20 plan has no data.  Plus you'll probably need a new phone for XT.  People paying $19 a month are unlikely to want to buy a new phone just to get possibly lower prices on XT, but they can use their existing phones on Two Degrees.

I disagree that XT is initially only for people who want to use data.

The fact that Vodafone don't allow customers to apply addons to these plans is stupid. Why not allow add ons? The reason is that Vodafon rather their customers sign up to a you choose plan which costs more..... these plans are only available to make their standings in the OECD look better then they actually are.

If only Vodafone had done the same thing when I wanted to migrate from my Get 200 to You Choose, I'd still be with them.  This seems like a good upgrade for those on Get 70.

Did others on older Get plans like Get 200 also receive a letter converting them to an Easy xx plan ? We switched from Get 200 to Get 70 a few years back when it was still possible to do so.

Well, just as well I didn't rush in and make 20 minutes of daytime calls from 28 May onwards. Got a text yesterday saying it will take another 2 weeks to make the switch to Easy 20 from Get 70. So I may have to wait till the 19th of June.

If you're a Get 70 user and you made daytime calls after 28 May you're in for a surprise on your bill at $1.39 a minute. (Maybe I'm the only customer still on Get 70)

Wonder why it's taking so long to switch me (us) over? Would have thought it was a simple matter of updating our plan which they must regularly do for other customers who switch plans with no issues or delays.
