Hi there.

I havent been able to confirm.. is 900 UMTS replacing 2100 in city centres?

or is it going to stay 2100 in the city and 900 rural

If it is going to replace it.. what kind of time table would i be looking at?

Wanting to get a new phone, but if Vodafone is only going to stay 2100 in the city, (which is where I am) then theres no point getting a 900/2100 phone, might as well get a 850/2100 that can do Telecom as well.

EDIT: I have decided to purchase a 900/2100 Phone.

Sorry mate, there are no cellphones currently avaliable that can do this..
It has been rumoured that chipsets like this will be avaliable in possibly a year or so, but thats all speculation.

Short answer, No, not yet.

Oh well, that's a shame init?

My Vodafone mobile contract ends in July, i'm paying way too much at the moment for services i don't need. Beware to everyone who is considering locking themselves into a 2 year contract, 2 years is a longgg long time in the mobile world and your current usage patterns could very likely change over that time.

Ouch, im glad i wasnt in your position!

I went for a cheap 12 month plan, and its been perfect.. Could use some more minutes etc of course. but with a disconnection fee being no more expensive than $40, would you really complain ;)

But yeah, it is a terrible shame.

But we can only hope they do come out at some point soon.

Are there two different models of the Nokia 3120c? My wife as one on the vodafone network that can also see NZ Comm's new network, but I've also seen one with a Telecom Sim on their network. Nokia's information states 850 and 900 3G support.

Generally known online as OpenMedia, now working for Red Hat APAC as a Technology Evangelist and Portfolio Architect. Still playing with MythTV and digital media on the side.

According to that. only 850/2100 support.

Could you please post a link to where you are getting your info?

Cheers

If you're paying too much for services you dont need, you can always change plans. If you're on a You Choose plan, you can move up and down depending on your usage after 6 months of your contract without penalty.

I saw an engineering sample of a Sierra Wireless UMTS module at CeBIT that does 850,900,1900 and 2100. The chipsets are available so I think it'll be safe to say we'll be seeing plenty of handsets by this time next year that support all 4 bands.
