Hi all,

I've recently signed up to TelstraClear, switching from Orcon+ (i.e. their unbundled service).

The first attempt failed today, because apparently the CSR lodged in a reassignment request. I understand why it failed, but the thing is, this second time around, the CSR advised that they will have to lodge a "New Connection".

She also advised that a technician will need to come around to my house for the "new connection". This is where I am confused. I definitely do NOT want a technician to come to my house and install a new line, because as I am told, it will cost $62.45 + anything up to $500 for the "new connection".

Shoudn't it just be straight "reconnection", i.e. using the same line my Orcon+ is using, but just switching over the equipment AT THE EXCHANGE? Why is there a need for "new connection"?

Could someone in know please help me out, because I don't want to be charged for something I don't need. I want to LEAVE ORCON+ and signup with TelstraClear, NOT a new second line.

Thanks in advance.

I'm in Auckland, on the Te Atatu exchange. Does it matter though where I am located?

It would have if it was Wellington or Christchurch as they have a cable network in those areas. Because I am from Wellington I really can't comment on the need for them to come out for the install sorry.

Basically your changing from a Orcon LLU connection back to a telecom wholesale connection provided by TelstraClear. You won't need a new physical line the $500 but you will likely have to pay the new connection fee the $60ish.

That's how I understand it anyway.
