Sorry friendlymonkey, very little of this roll-out has been in cities. It's the rural folks who get the juicy 900MHz 3G.

I really sympathise with N95 owners, what a bummer it doesn't do 900MHz. Many of my contemporaries have them, and while they are a great phone, I can use my E71 in so many more places.

Oh well I won't have any use for this until I upgrade to the next 3G BlackBerry :) but I will certainly be looking forward to the benefits 3G will bring! Well done!

i have been using the 900Mhz UTMS sites for while around my area, and they have been working well.

sadly within some cites 2100Mhz coverage is average at best, and my phone drops to 2G 900Mhz........

If it wasent for that , i could leave my phone on UTMS mode only...

It is a pain that most N95's only supports 2100 GSM, I will be upgrading in the next week or two anyway so it will all change soon.

Vodafone began a limited 3G rollout in 2005, then in July last year announced it would extend a WCDMA-900MHz network to match its 2G network?s reach to "97% of the places New Zealanders, work, live and play"

So really it should be:

"97% of the places New Zealanders, work, live and play"**

** Excludes 97% of NZers who live in a populated city where we only deliver spotty 2100mhz coverage. ;-)

I'll test with a 900mhz device near my house and see but I won't get my hopes up as 2G has been up and down lately too... oh, I guess that's Telecoms fault though.

Im sure i have read that the new extended 3g coverage is meant to shadow the existing 2g coverage. But looking at the new vodafone coverage map the extended 3g coverage doesn't seem much more than the 2100mhz 3g in the main centers, except in the top of the north island. Is shadowing 2g coverage different than shadowing the current gsm coverage? Because if not there is a lot of 2g coverage thats not being shadowed in the south island. Is there a coverage map of the XT network yet?
