Was wondering if one can retain their 6 digit number if no longer on a plan? (Moving from a plan to prepay)

Thanks!

I believe however, if you do then then it is no longer possible to do a name transfer of that number any time in the future. JohnR may be able to confirm this?

I tried to do this about 3 years ago but was told it couldn't be done so I stayed on. Was I misinformed or is this a recent change (by recent I mean within the last 3 years).
I changed over last week when calling to switch to another network. Good work by CSR to offer me this option. I was pleasantly surprised to hear it was a local call centre too :)

Number portability came in last year i beleive.

If i ported from OA to Prepay, could i then port to XT or 2Degrees? Pretty sure i could but just thought i'd check.

Yep, number porting came in a couple of years ago, 1 April 2007 I believe (off the top of my head, correct me if I'm wrong)
