So when is Vodafones new 850mhz? 900mhz network coming????

My mate just finshed doing the XT with alcatel-lucent and reckons Vodafone is going to be rolling out a new lower spectrum network soon.

Would be cool!

The force is strong with this one!

Hey thats promising news.

Out at the beach community on the current system, there are many poor /no coverage spots
in the built up housing area,  hopefully a newer VF service  may improve that sooner than later or the alternative is to see whether the Telecom XT system has coverage so family and friends can keep in contact.

One thought though if the VF new service uses the 850mhz, newer handset may be required.

So you missed it as well! That 3% not covered by the 3G 900 service gets bigger all the time!

900 3G has been complete since last month.

Or maybe he's talking about the rumored LTE trial for Group that will take place in NZ! :-)

Vodafone should fix its reception issues before racing off with more speed. Some of us don't get any 3G signal at all and others live in black spots with nothing at all.

Vodafone should sort these issues first!

As noted, Vodafone has just finished deploying a 900 MHz WCDMA network. I think your friend passed some wrong information or you didn't understand when he passed it on.

Agree entirely.

The alternative........buy another phone and go to the Telecom XT Network..?

Before spending any money wait and see what 2 degrees is offering in August. I'm picking both incumbets will rapidly drop prices to be competitive. Bring it on 2 degrees.

Apologies for appearing to encourage this off-topic tangeant BUT...

ajw = do you have a commercial interest in 2degrees? I only ask as the above comment seems to be your stock contribution to a number of different threads in these forums.

Not a dig at you at all, just trying to determine why you'd be pushing 2degrees so much

Well i won't be signing any long term contracts! I am intrested in 2 degrees. But since they wont have 3G at launch and will only roam on vodafone 2G it kinda kills any good data deals. But if the call/txt palns are really cheap well...

No  commercial interest at all just looking forward to some long awaited competition in the mobile market. By competition I mean a company that has had the balls to build their own network.

Just to clarify, is the 2degrees outfit using the vodafone network to supply their service? Price is one aspect, geting coverage is another....im hoping for better coverage.

2 degrees uses its own network and where there's no coverage you will roam on Vodafone.

Theres good reason to be concerned about what coverage is available. In the event of a power cut,
landline phones relying upon 230v power may not work - and if theres an emergency a cell phone is next to useless if it has no coverage

In the early hours of this morning i had a colapse, this time thankfully not serious. H ad i needed help, vodafone would have been utterly useless waste of time due to lack of coverage

So today, i went and bought a cheap entry level TELECOM XT mobile phone and now i have full coverage instantly, it works :) i can now receive and make voice calls on mobile. Great !!

Last week i did contact vodafone via their website, but it doesnt seem theyre very interested in the customer, no response so far.

In a week, if i either have no better vodafone coverage nor hear from vodafone when their coverage will improve, i will go and tell all the people i know that where vodafone failed, the new Telecom XT network did work, from a safety viewpoint, its worth knowing. imho
