I have recvently used my Vodem in both NZ and Oz, swapping out SIM cards for each country (same provider though using pre-pay schemes).

Question 1 - can the vodem device be used with other telco's SIM cards for mobile broadband?

Question 2 - does Vodafone have/offer a similar service for the USA?

Question 3 - can anyone recommend a similar service (other than Vodafone) for pre-pay mobile broadband in the USA (preferbly using my existing vodem device)?

Thanks,

R.

1 - Yes.
2 - My understanding is 850MHz UMTS (with AT&T) is the best bet for 3G in the USA but your Vodem probably won't support that frequency.
3 - See above - AT&T but you probably need to get new hardware.

Hi Scott, thanks for that.

I've just found out that this month Virgin USA (via Sprint network) have started pre-pay mobile broadband using similar USB modem, and pretty decent rates compared to current US-based mobile data, or NZ service-based roaming rates.

I'm checking with them now to see if their SIM can be utilised in the Vodem device ... I think I read somewhere that it supports quad-band frequencies for 3G & GPRS at least.

Sheesh, trying to get convergence with all these devices is harrowing .

Sure is harrowing.

BTW "T-stick" is Telecoms name for their CDMA stick, but I know what you mean :-)
