I did some testing on Vodafones new HSDPA upgrade in Newmarket between XT and Vodafone and where once there was a radical difference, the gap has closed and Vodafone beat out XT on the uploads with three times faster on upload with Vodafone getting 150kbps verses XT 50kbps but still a bit slower than XT with Vodafone getting 1500kbps, verses 2000kbps for XT

I assume that XT would be as slow on the download if the network was fully loaded like Vodafone's is, and when more people move to XT it will even out, but I can't understand why XT is always so slow on uploads.

All the testing was done with a iPhone 3G with the speedtest app.

I understand HSDPA will be rolled out to the rest of the network by October 1st.

Here is the original launch post from Geekzone

Interesting times ahead.

Uploaded from my XT phone (SE W705a) at 330 kb/s... much higher than the 50 you got! Apparently the iPhone isn't a very fast device though. My SE is supposed to run at up to 2 Mb/s so I need to do some more testing at some point.

My iPhone always get's around 56kbps max on the upload no matter where I am if I'm on XT. I have got it to 1971kbps though.

I'm getting a replacement for my iPhone tomorrow as one speaker has stopped working so I'l be able to test with a new device hehe.

Bugger, the speaker is on the left hand side? Guess I'm not getting a new iPhone.

All of you should count yourself lucky.. My area still has very slow 3G data :( As shown below.

Telecom are promising a good result and a 7 day return time, so might be time to do a jump.

But you're right, when people start moving off vodafone to telecom, the network load should even out eventually.

Tell me about the seven day return time? My friend which works at Telecom is amused because all the telly ad's say 'take it for a testdrive' but no one has challenged them on that yet, but I know a few people which would switch if the coverage is better but don't want to commit unless it is, and want to take it on some sort of, erm 'test drive'.

I heard that there were 300,000 more people on Vodafone's network than it was designed for, hence a lot of the problems, watch a lot of them flow out to 2D and XT and the network will right itself, along with now all the money Vodafone is plowing into their network to actually start being competitive again.

WEll, I was at my local Telecom store the other day, taking a look at their plans and speaking to the people there (they were actually really friendly and helpful compared to my local VF store) but that aside,  iasked her what if im not happy about the speeds etc.

She said, well, there is a 7 day return time, and we will cancel the plan without any charges to you if it doesnt fufill your expectations.

So, its looking oh so very tasty.. and my Vodafone contract is up.. so

And if you had to get a phone through them as well, would they take that back??

I didnt ask that part, but if i go and sign up, i will find out.

ALl she said was "you will get a refund if it doesnt meet your expectations"

So I assume she also meant the modem device also.
but assumptions are the worst thing in the world; so like i siad, if i go in again, i will find out
