Just upgraded a laptop to run Windows XP Pro 64 bit edition. We use the above PC Card modem for 3G access.

However when we try to install the Connect software as noted here

http://www.vodafone.co.nz/mobile-data/devices/huawei-3g-e618.jsp

the Windows installer notes Adminisrative privileges are needed to install Vodafone Mobile Connect on Windows 2000 SP4 or Windows XP SP2. The installer will now exit.

The user has local admin rights on the machine so I suspect the installer or software isn't Win64 compatible?

The documentation on the site says

Microsoft Windows Vista 32/64-Bit, Windows 2000 (SP2), Windows XP or XP Pro Operating Systems

but it's not clear to me if that means it supports Vista 32/64 but only XP and 2000 in 32bit.

If we can't get the software to work in Win XP Pro 64 bit then that's going to be an issue since the corporate environment doesn't support Vista yet

Any ideas really appreciated

Thanks

Laurence

Thanks John. I have pointed the user to the file and will get back to you. My only question is, the file says Windows 32 so I hope it also works in Windows 64 or is compatible.

Whoops - the file is Zip password protected so we cannot extract it. Any ideas?

Thanks

Hi John

That would be helpful since we can't even open this zip archive.

Cheers

No luck with this.

Downloaded the latest VMC software and it doesn't install - complains about not being an administrator but the user is one. Looked into the msi file and noted the test for OS level doesn't check Win64 properly so changed the test.

Now the software installs fine but Windows 64 cannot find the drivers for the card (well it can't find compatible drivers) even though I point to this directory

C:\Program Files\Vodafone\Vodafone Mobile Connect\Driver\pccard\xp\Huawei

At a loss what to do now apart from try perhaps a USB stick or move to the XT network :-)

Hey,

A quick google search returned this:

http://www.mobilebroadbandrocks.com/dashboard-v912-vista-64bit-support

So if John can't find what he's looking for.. maybe that'll help.
