Resolving failing for sites that exist - google.co.nz - xmarks, bbc, herald on several occasions.

low res youtube - not playing without buffering

ustream - again, not playing properly.

does any of the services work properly at the moment? I tried making a call earlier on mums phone and got dead air after dialing - nothing happening...

Have you tried restarting your router? I don't know if they did something overnight but nothing was going when I got up this morning and a restart fixed it.

PPP has been up for 544:06:41 - if they are gonna do something that makes it need a reconnect to work they should at least drop the connections, will power cycle it and see what happens.. But I am not holding my breath...

Nope - cant even watch the U2 videos on the youtube homepage without it stopping, and thats not even HQ mode.

Same vid on my home machine via rdp will play thru without stopping, although all I get is a slideshow via rdp - its filling up way faster then the playback indicator is moving.

Have you done some off peak Vs peak local speed tests; to eliminate the possibility of exchange congestion?

Yes, understand that - but you still need to rule out other issues.

E.G. I recently had exchange congestion. This created a lot of time outs, YouTube was impossible to watch at night, phone calls turned to custard etc.

By doing peak / off peak of local speed test comparisons + ping tests etc; it was shown there was exchange congestion.

Eventually this was fixed, and with a great improvement. YouTube (peak time) is still not great, but definitely noticeably improved since the exchange congestion was eliminated.

Well I could make the effort to go there during offpeak times or try to talk mum thru a speedtest at offpeak times, but really I just want a connection that works. Also my aunts place who are on xnet and about 300m from the exchange also cant use it when I have been there in the evenings.

What I was mentioning was that it was the worst I have ever seen it with all the issues combined. Its time to move since xnet have proven uninterested in providing the service of an internet connection that works for the tasks expected of a broadband connection.

...and yet if you move to another provider on the same congested exchange you may well be equally frustrated.

The advice above is to help you avoid this!

Change ISP already, Xnet has been rubbish for about 2 years now for residential broadband.. one can only assume they are not interested in this market.

If you are friendly with any of your neighbours that have broadband you could invite yourself over to run a few tests?

I'm amazed that anyone is still on Xnet. I left about 2 - 2.5 years ago because of the intolerably bad speeds and service at the time. This had been occuring for around 3 months when I left. Since then I've followed the Xnet threads and incredibly nothing has changed in this time.

I remember when Xnet was one of the most competitive ISPs in the country. That was a long time ago.
