I know this subject has been touched on before but what I was wondering if anyone knows of a list or a map that shows what areas or exchanges are classified as urban and what are classified as rural. My son is well inside the city boundaries of New Plymouth city. He is on Xnet fusion and just in the last couple of months or so he has been charged as a rural customer. Yet I am on the same exchange as him and with another isp yet I am not classified as a rural customer with them. Incidentally our local hospital here in New Plymouth is also on the same exchange. He has tried ringing Xnet but they still seem to think he is classified as rural.
I've posted a link to a list several times on here. The URL is on my machine at home so I can't help at present.
What ISP are you with? If it's Slingshot they were still selling Naked DSL connections to rural customers at a loss a few months ago. Are you sure you are on the same exchange?
I am with Maxnet. The exchange we are on is the Frankleigh Park exchange. All numbers coming from it start 06 753 xxxx. I used to have one of those numbers myself until I went into naked dsl and voip. Like I said in my first post Taranaki Base Hospital is 06 753 6xxx and to me it would seem strange that they would classify an exchange rural that has a city's hospital connected to it.
Have just found the URL to a comcom paper which has a list of urban exchanges and our exchange is listed on it. I will put it here for anyone else who might be interested too. Thanks for your help
