Well the time has come to finally leave a company I thought had it all. But the prices go up, the tv quality stays as poor as ever and the internet caps stay as they have been for over two years. In the meantime Sky go HD, Telecom go all 'new age' with great deals and too many of my friends are now on Bigtime and loving it.

Telstraclear have repeatedly charged me for a tv service I cancelled two months ago and have a bunch of CSR's who have little knowledge of their own plans let alone anyone elses. The clincher though is I can now get the same 'services' through Telecom for a phone and internet for 30% less than I pay now with an 'all you can eat' connection thrown in, so its adios.

One question I have though is regarding my email addresses. They are paradise accounts that came with the Telstra connection so does anyone know if I can keep them when I switch to Telecom ? Or will I lose them as Im no longer a Telstra customer.

A final note if anyone from TCL is reading. Sitting still in the world of telecommunications means you are actually going backwards. Your CSR staff are often clueless, your retention CSR's are hopelessly out of touch with the deals your rivals offer, your international calling rates are terrible outside of the UK and Aussie and your prices and caps mean you are no longer competitive in the broadband world. Im 2k from an ADSL2+ exchange and six months from being cabinetised and yet your only come back is that I will have terrible reliability issues on DSL.

Well done! I would switch, if not for circumstances beyond my control.

Three years, actually! Unless you count the pathetic 25Mbps plan.

Unfortunately I don't think so. One of my uncontrollable circumstances from above Cry. You could get their cheapest plan though, like a dialup one or something so that you can keep it.

I switched to SKY HD TV from Telstra a few months back and as of last week switched to Telecom Big Time broadband. I now get HD TV and faster, uncapped internet for the equivalent of what I was paying Telstraclear.

I was a Telstraclear fan, now I think they're a joke.

Good advice is to make sure you don't use the email address that comes with your ISP. Use gmail or something else that's independent of your ISP. Saves a lot of hassle when switching ISPs.

I heard telstraclear from new zealand is changing all their broadband plans mid september this year and introducing their own ISAM's.

Move to New Zealand's best fibre broadband service (affiliate link). Free setup code: R587125ERQ6VE. Note that to use Quic Broadband you must be comfortable with configuring your own router.

but they won't be installing their own ISAM's where their cable network is as it would be pointless

Too little too late.

By the end of the week Ill have a Telecom line, free national calls, cheap capped calls to Europe, as much internet as I can get-as fast as I can get it and Sky in HD....all for less than the Telstraclear triple pack with a capped internet and poor tv quality.

Well, i have been with telstraclear for almost 3 years now. Wink I will never use other broadband providers because for the last 3 years cable internet is the most stable for me. In the last 3 years, I can host lots of online games with 10 people from dunedin all the way to perth and singapore. They all enjoys the lag-free game we have. So no, I will never turn back to adsl if I can stay with telstraclear cable.

I only use cable internet + tv. I use voip for normal calls = free national calls in nz and some part of the world.

Anyhow, you have fun with Telecom eh. Share us the experience!

I have been watching with great interest the massive capital investment being made by Telecom over the last 18 months and from what I am hearing is that if you are close to an exchange or cabinet that the internet speeds are very very good. In comparison Telstraclear continue to milk their own networks and fleece their customers, and in fact encouraging them to switch to Telecom by promising lots and delivering nothing (other than the same services at more expensive prices for the last few years). Looking forward to Telstrclears next major announcement on progress which always amounts to nothing..or at least a capital investment of a handful of $$$'s.

It's true. I'm pretty close to a cabinet and my speed is better than the 10megabit I was getting on Telstra. My DSL connection syncs at around 16megabit and I average about 12megabit download on the Telecom Big Time plan.

Telstra speeds are good but when you consider the data costs they are hellishly expensive when compared to Telecom. I now have speed and data :-)

Likewise, I started seeing the light when they had that gigantic cock up in Tauranga, you know when they tried to build a cellphone network and were shafted by another company. "Tauranga Unplugged" or (What a gigantic cock up).
