This discussion follows on from here

Basically I have a whitepages listing which was originally placed by telecom and has since been ported to VFX then onto Vodafone home phone wireless.  I have since moved and got married and would like to change the address and my wife's surname on the listing.

When with VFX I was told by them that to update a whitepages listing I had to go direct to yellow pages group.  Yellow pages group told me that I had to go through my phone provider as they do not have access to residential accounts.

Vodafone have said that they do not have a home phone wireless agreement with yellow pages group and can not place or change listings.  They do however have access to the whitepages listings for their fixed lines.

Does someone with an understanding of how vodafone/telecom wholesale/yellow pages group's systems work see a way for me to get the changes made, know it definately can't be done, or know who I should contact?  Or am I better off getting the privacy commissioner to look into yellow pages group and number porting?

From my experience, you MUST go via YPG to have any changes done. This is true even for Telecom customers since the sale of Yellow Pages

Yellow pages group have told me that residential only listings are set up differently, do not have account details attached and as such they cannot confirm the identity of the person on the phone and only the phone provider has access to change the details.

This was discussed before in our WorldxChange - you have to contact Yellow Pages directly. I had a similar problem with WorldxChange not listing our residential number and an email to Yellow Pages got it fixed.

Why is this not fixed yet is beyond me. A bunch of companies trying to make life harder for customers.

Yes it was and it is still not resolved.  I've rung yellow pages group half a dozen times and have spoken to a supervisor who all told me the same story.  That they don't have direct access to residenial listings.

Um..

http://tools.yellow.co.nz/portal/site/yellow/white-faq#100

-------------------------------------------
How do I update my listing details on White pages? online?
Residential customers can update their listing (name, address, phone number and email link if have) on White pages? online by calling us on 0800 803 803. We will then update this information on our database. This information will then be updated online and for the next White pages? book.

Business customers can call their sales representative to update their details.

Changes made will be updated on our site within one business day.
--------------------------------

So if this is wrong then yellowpages might want to change/update/fix their website..

Well I rang whitepages this morning and got the same line, then tried telecom knowing it was a long shot, they still had my details but couldn't change them, so I rang whitepages again to get the same line, then tried vodafone again and then back to whitepages which just seemed to work all of a sudden.

Do they have two different call centres with totally different sets of rules?

Now I just have to hope it actually gets changed (I've expected it to be done twice in the past and it never happened).  Maybe they are getting sick of me and thought that if they tell me they are sending out some papers they will get a break for a week or two.

Recieved a letter in the mail today dated the 20th (May have come earlier but I have been away) with a proof of the changes I asked for. I was really impressed with the speed and accuracy, compared to what has happened in the past.

That was until I checked the online white pages...

Instead of ammeding my current listing as asked, they have duplicated it and made the changes to the duplication! Doh!

At least it does prove that you do need to go to YPG to make the changes.

Telecom customers can contact 123 or 126 to change, add or remove their directory listing as they always have been able to-do.

There are some limitations, but for standard residentual listings everything should be as normal.

You are of course free to contact YPG yourself.

The address has been changed on my whitepages listing, but my wife's maiden name wasn't removed, which was requested in the same phone call.  Haven't recieved the confirmation letter yet.  The sytem does work (partially, eventually, when you happen to get the right person)Laughing
